EXPO Energy Research Centre — one of the facilities at the EXPO 2017 international exhibition in Astana, dedicated to the theme «Energy of the Future». The centre's architecture continues the overall logic of the exhibition complex, where technological innovation, energy efficiency and contemporary materiality become part of a unified image.

The key facade materials are glass and aluminium. Large transparent surfaces make the building visually light, while 3D aluminium panels form denser sections of the envelope and emphasize the strict geometry of the architecture.

Metal here is particularly important as a material connected to the project's very concept. Aluminium makes it possible to create precise large-format elements, is resistant to the external environment and suitable for recycling, which aligns with the overall theme of energy efficiency and rational use of resources.

The restrained metal surface interacts differently with natural light: on overcast days the facade appears deeper and more matte, while in bright sunlight the aluminium becomes lighter and more actively reflects the surroundings. Combined with glass, this creates a laconic and technological appearance.

As a result, the Energy Research Centre is perceived as part of the unified EXPO architecture — modern, functional and built around the idea of interaction between technology, energy and material.
