Shopping Centre "Maxi Mall"
1/ 5
Shopping Centre «Maxi Mall» — a large shopping and entertainment complex in Ust-Kamenogorsk, whose architectural concept was developed by BLANK Architects. The building's image is inspired by the smooth flow of the Irtysh River: the facades and overall silhouette are built on soft lines and are virtually free of sharp angles, which makes the large volume appear more dynamic.
Pre-painted aluminium becomes one of the key materials of the architectural envelope. Corrugated metal panels are used on the facade, and their relief emphasizes the direction of the building's lines and adds additional depth to large surfaces.
It is the profiled geometry that makes the metal particularly expressive in natural light. Light and shadow progressively travel across the relief of the panels, so the facade changes depending on the time of day and viewing angle. Even extended metal planes do not appear monotonous — the surface continuously maintains visual movement.
Aluminium works in combination with large-scale glazing: transparent areas reveal public spaces, while metal forms the main plasticity of the external envelope. This contrast makes it possible to emphasize the large scale of the shopping centre while making its architecture visually lighter.
As a result, Maxi Mall acquires a cohesive contemporary image, where metal becomes a continuation of the main architectural idea. The relief of the aluminium panels supports the smooth geometry of the building and conveys the theme of flow and movement embedded in the concept.
