Irina Viner-Usmanova Gymnastics Centre
1/ 12
Irina Viner-Usmanova Gymnastics Palace is a landmark sports facility at Luzhniki, whose architectural concept was developed by TPO «Pride» under the direction of Sergey Kuznetsov. The building's main feature is a dynamic roof reminiscent of a flowing gymnastics ribbon — a symbol of movement, plasticity and artistic gymnastics itself.
In the architecture of the complex, work with aluminium is especially important. The metal is used both on the exterior and in interiors, continuing the theme of fluid, plastic form. Golden aluminium surfaces become one of the main visual accents of the interior space and emphasize the solemn character of the sports palace.
For the interiors, Cladding Solutions 3D aluminium panels in WINNER GOLD 3L were used, as well as wall panels, ceiling slats, door panels and trims in the TEMPLE GOLD shade. Surfaces with different depths and characteristics of gold work with light, creating complex iridescence and enhancing the sense of movement. Metal here becomes a full part of the architectural scenario: the plasticity of the external shell continues inside through volume ceilings, wall panels and details. As a result, the architecture and interior are perceived as a unified space in which form, light and golden aluminium work towards a common image.
As a result, the Gymnastics Palace acquired easily recognizable architecture — from the wave-like roof to carefully crafted metal interior surfaces. The project was awarded the international prize MIPIM Awards 2020 as the best sports and cultural facility.
