Tatar State Academic Theater named after Galiyasgar Kamal — a new cultural center on the shore of Lake Kaban in Kazan, designed by Wowhaus in collaboration with Kengo Kuma & Associates. The concept combines contemporary architecture, the national culture of Tatarstan, and the natural context of the lake.

The building's defining feature is "ice flowers" — natural patterns that appear on Lake Kaban's surface in winter. This motif is expressed architecturally through a complex system of triangular elements in glass and aluminium, positioned at varying angles on a steel frame. Metal here does not merely form cladding; it defines the character of the architecture itself. Aluminium planes work together with glass, creating a multi-layered, almost crystalline envelope. Depending on the time of day, season, and weather, the facade reflects the sky, water, and city differently, allowing the large theater volume to continuously transform and visually dissolve into the surrounding space.

The triangular geometry simultaneously references the former theater building and gives the new complex its own contemporary identity. The cool, dynamic plasticity of the external envelope contrasts with warmer, more saturated interiors, where Tatar national motifs are revealed through ornament, color, and light design.

The result is a unified architectural object where aluminium, glass, light, and reflections become part of a single composition. Metal emphasizes the building's complex geometry and allows the facade to literally interact with Lake Kaban and the constantly changing urban landscape.
