Potapovo Station, Moscow Metro
1/ 8
Potapovo Station, Moscow Metro — an above-ground station on the Sokolniki Line, whose architectural image is built on a sense of movement, speed, and technological sophistication. The concept was developed by PARSEC architects in collaboration with artist and sculptor Dashi Namdakov.
Aluminium plays the primary role in shaping the station's external image. The metallic cladding unites the large elongated volume into a single composition and emphasizes the characteristic smooth architectural lines. Perforated cassettes and louver elements create additional facade depth and make the surface more complex under varying light conditions.
Metal here functions not only as a cladding material but also as a sculptural tool. Through the alternation of smooth, perforated, and transparent surfaces, the facade gains pronounced rhythm, and the large transport structure appears lighter and more dynamic.
The interaction between aluminium and glass is particularly striking. Transparent sections reveal the interior space of the station, while the metallic envelope shapes its silhouette and reinforces the overall sense of movement.
As a result, Potapovo receives a contemporary and recognizable architectural image where metal, light, and complex geometry work as a unified system and emphasize the character of the new above-ground station.
