Almaty city Akimat building — one of the key administrative facilities in the city and an important part of the architectural ensemble of Republic Square. The building was constructed in the late 1970s and represents a characteristic example of monumental public architecture of the late Soviet period.

The composition is built on a large symmetrical volume with an expressive central entrance, a system of pylons and extended horizontal articulations. The architecture emphasises the official status of the building and its dominant position in the structure of the square.

Following serious damage to the building in 2022, a large-scale renovation was undertaken with the aim of preserving the historical appearance as much as possible. When restoring the facade, natural stone was used — marble, travertine and preserved sections of the original cladding, while updating the structural foundation and engineering solutions.

In the new facade system, aluminium plays an important role. An aluminium substructure was installed beneath the stone cladding, which made it possible to more accurately construct the facade geometry and create a modern technological foundation for heavy natural materials. Aluminium structures are also used in the glazing and window elements of the building.

Thus, the metal here practically does not compete with the historical architecture visually, but becomes an important part of its modern reconstruction. The aluminium structural system makes it possible to preserve the monumental stone appearance of the building while improving the accuracy, reliability and operational characteristics of the facade.
