Above-ground metro line near Filatov Lug station
1/ 11
Above-ground section of Moscow Metro near Filatov Lug station — part of the above-ground section of the Sokolniki Line between Salaryevo and Stolbovo stations. An engineering structure stretching several kilometers unites stations and line sections into a single architectural system, protecting tracks from precipitation while simultaneously creating an expressive image of transport infrastructure.
The main structural element is an extended aluminium covering. Industrial standing seam roofing made from pre-painted aluminium, capable of operating over long distances and complex surface geometry, was used for the line sections and station complexes.
The metal envelope is perceived as a continuous line following the direction of the tracks. Smooth roof curves soften the engineering character of the structure, while the longitudinal pattern of seams further emphasizes the direction of train movement.
An important part of the architectural solution is also the aluminium drop-shaped slats forming the facade sections of the covering. The rhythm of slats creates the effect of a semi-transparent envelope: from different viewpoints the structure appears either denser or visually opens, allowing light and views to pass through.
Aluminium here functions simultaneously as both a technical and architectural material. Low weight, forming capabilities and durability of the external coating allow the creation of extended structures of complex geometry, while the metal surface unites stations and line sections into a single recognizable image.
As a result, engineering infrastructure transforms into a complete architectural object: the dynamics of the standing seam roofing, the repeating rhythm of slats and the interaction of metal with light support the very idea of movement inherent in the metro's function.
