Humo Arena Multi-purpose Ice Complex

Humo Arena Multi-purpose Ice Complex is one of Tashkent's largest sports facilities, opened in 2019. The architectural concept was developed by Heerim Architects & Planners, with PI Arena institute serving as master designer. The building's design is inspired by the Humo bird — a traditional symbol of happiness and freedom, reflected in the volume's plasticity and the organization of the surrounding territory.
The main arena volume has an elongated streamlined form and integrates the main ice rink, training arena, and public spaces. The smooth roof and facade lines soften the scale of the structure and create a cohesive silhouette, clearly legible from distant viewpoints.
Pre-painted aluminium is one of the key materials of the complex. The metal is used in the extended roof shell, executed using industrial standing seam technology. This solution made it possible to create a continuous surface of complex geometry and emphasize the smoothness of the architectural form.
The aluminium is particularly expressive due to the combination of light and deeper silvery metallic surfaces. In sunny weather, the roof actively reflects light and emphasizes the building's curves, while in diffuse lighting it takes on a calmer, matte character.
The standing seam coating additionally enhances the architectural dynamics: the longitudinal lines of metal follow the shell's geometry and visually direct movement along the building. At the same time, aluminium addresses the technical requirements of a large sports facility — providing lightweight coverage, resistance to atmospheric exposure, and the ability to work with complex forms.
At Humo Arena, metal becomes an important part of the architectural image itself. The smooth aluminium shell unifies the roof and large volumes of the complex, helping to convey the sense of movement and lightness embodied in the image of the Humo bird.
