Kemerovo International Airport named after A. A. Leonov

Kemerovo International Airport named after A. A. Leonov — a new passenger terminal whose architectural design is dedicated to the theme of space and the first human spacewalk. The building concept was developed by AB ASADOV, creating an architecture around the combination of a transparent glass shell and expressive metal elements.

The terminal facade is largely defined by large glazed surfaces across its perimeter. Against this backdrop, metal plays a particularly expressive role: horizontal slats and the complex envelope of the entrance canopy form a denser, more technological layer of architecture and emphasize the building's dynamic character.

The main accent is a large canopy projecting over the entrance area. Its surface is made of standing seam metal, and the complex geometry and material character create an association with a spacecraft envelope. A triangular cutout in the structure becomes part of the facade's graphic composition and reinforces the project's overall theme.

Metal here functions not as a separate cladding but as one of the primary instruments of architectural expression. The contrast between the solid metal surface and transparent glass enhances the sense of technological sophistication, while light reflections make the facade visually dynamic throughout the day.

As a result, the terminal's architecture combines transport function with a striking symbolic image: glass creates a sense of openness, while the metal envelope gives the building character and connects it to the themes of aviation and space.
