Saint Petersburg Metro, Novokrestovskaya Station
1/ 6
Novokrestovskaya station of the Saint Petersburg Metro — a station on the Nevsko-Vasileostrovskaya Line, opened in 2018 on reclaimed territory of Krestovskiy Island near the stadium. Today the station bears the name Zenit. Lenmetrogipotrans served as the general designer, with A.A. Potekhin and D.A. Boytsov as the authors of the architectural solution.
The architectural concept of the station is connected to the proximity of the Gulf of Finland and is built around a maritime theme. Light surfaces, sea wave shades, glass and large graphic images form a calm modern interior, while the panoramic nature of certain zones emphasizes the station's unusual location by the water.
An important role in the interior solution is played by aluminium. Suspended ceilings are made of light and silvery aluminium and steel panels. The smooth metallic surface creates a visually light ceiling and interacts well with the artificial lighting system.
The finishing also uses metal-ceramic, stainless steel and glass. Columns and walls receive a denser and more textured cladding, while the aluminium ceiling unites the space and emphasizes the extent of passenger zones. Due to the different character of metallic surfaces, the interior does not appear monotonous.
A special role is played by the combination of metal with glass. Glass partitions, column cladding and artistic panels depicting the Gulf of Finland create reflections reminiscent of water movement, while light metal enhances this effect and adds depth to the space.
As a result, the architecture of Novokrestovskaya is built on the combination of technological materials and the image of water. Aluminium becomes an important part of this system: it forms light ceiling surfaces, works with light and helps create a holistic modern interior of a transport facility.
