Coating types
PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride)
The coating composition includes polyvinylidene fluoride and acrylic. The most durable polymer coating for steel in all environmental exposure conditions. Steel products with this coating type are recommended for ventilated facade systems, roofs and interiors, as this is where the coating fully demonstrates its characteristics and guarantees long-term facade or roof service life. The coating has enhanced corrosion resistance and reliably protects the facade from water, snow and acid exposure. This coating type is recommended for coastal zones (marine climate). Galvanised steel with PVDF coating does not change colour under UV radiation throughout its service life. PVDF coatings meet the most demanding technical and architectural requirements and demonstrate the best performance in manufacturing finished products (facade wall panels, roofing elements). A distinctive feature of this coating type is two-layer and three-layer paint application with thickness not exceeding 45 μm.
High-durability polyester (HD PE)
Polyester-based polymer coating with enhanced technical and operational characteristics (so-called high durable polyester) with coating thickness up to 45 μm. The increased coating thickness compared to standard polyester is due to requirements for enhanced coating wear resistance and weather resistance. High-durability polyester includes additional components that increase its UV radiation resistance to RUV4 category (ultraviolet resistance category: 4 out of 5) and create a surface resistant to aggressive atmospheric particles and mechanical damage.
Polyester (PE)
Polyester-based coating. Painted steel with this coating type is resistant to high temperatures and has corrosion resistance. An additional advantage of polyester coating is the possibility of anti-graffiti effect application. Galvanised steel painted with polyester (PE) coating is used in interior finishing of public buildings, offices and retail spaces, thanks to the wide color range and reasonable cost. However, it should be noted that polyester coating has low resistance to ultraviolet radiation. Therefore, manufacturers recommend using products with polyester coating primarily in interior solutions and for interior finishing of buildings and their elements. This will preserve aesthetic qualities and coating durability throughout its service life.

Manufacturing technology
Manufacturing technology
Hot-dip galvanised steel with polymer coating. The zinc layer is applied to cold-rolled steel by immersion in molten zinc, then the coil passes through controlled cooling followed by mechanical processing. Optimal zinc layer thickness ensures long service life of the finished product and material resistance during mechanical processing — 275 g/m². After galvanising, steel undergoes coating by coil coating method (continuous painting of rolled sheet with rollers) on both sides of the coil, then paint is baked in a controlled-temperature oven and cools. All these processes produce a product with optimal properties for processing pre-painted steel and its long-term service.

Buy galvanised steel coil in rolls: reliability and affordable price for facades
Galvanised steel is one of the most demanded materials in construction. It combines steel strength with zinc coating corrosion resistance. Particularly convenient format — galvanised steel coil in rolls. It is used to manufacture facade panels, roofing elements, rainwater systems and decorative details. Cladding Solutions offers to buy galvanised steel coil in rolls for facade finishing and architecture with delivery throughout Russia. We will tell you what types of galvanised coil exist, where it is used and how prices are formed from the manufacturer for a roll of galvanised steel coil per m² in Moscow.

What is galvanised steel coil in rolls

Galvanised steel coil is thin cold-rolled steel covered with a zinc layer for corrosion protection. The coil is rolled into rolls, which is convenient for transportation and further processing (cutting, bending, profiling). Coil thickness typically ranges from 0.4 mm to 1.5 mm, width from 100 mm to 1250 mm and more.

How galvanised steel is produced

Hot dip galvanising process: steel coil is passed through a bath with molten zinc (approximately 450°C). Zinc bonds strongly to the steel surface, forming several alloy layers. Zinc coating thickness is measured in micrometres. The higher the required corrosion resistance, the thicker the zinc layer.

Zinc coating classes

Class Coating thickness (μm) Service life (years) Application
100 10–15 10–15 Interior finishing, dry regions
140 15–20 15–20 Facades, roofing in temperate climate
200 20–25 20–30 Aggressive environment (industrial zone, seaside)
275 25–35 30–40 Maximum protection, high humidity

For facades and roofing, coating class not lower than 140 is recommended, preferably 200 or 275.

Advantages of galvanised steel coil

Affordable price

Galvanised steel is one of the most budget-friendly metal materials for facades. It is significantly cheaper than copper, brass, aluminium and stainless steel. This allows implementing large projects without budget overruns.

High strength

Steel is stronger than aluminium and especially copper. Galvanised coil withstands high wind and snow loads, hail impacts and mechanical damage.

Corrosion resistance

Zinc coating reliably protects steel from rust. If the coating is damaged (scratched), zinc acts as a protector — it oxidises itself, protecting steel (galvanic protection).

Paintability

Galvanised coil can be painted in any colour from the RAL catalogue. Polymer coating (polyester, PVDF) additionally protects against ultraviolet and scratches and gives the material the desired shade.

Plasticity and processability

Coil is easily cut, bent, stamped and profiled. It can be used to manufacture shaped elements of any complexity: angles, fluted profiles, flashings, cornices.

Where galvanised steel coil is used

Facade systems

For facade finishing and architecture, galvanised coil is used to manufacture:

  • Facade cassettes (painted or unpainted).

  • Ventilated facades.

  • Canopies, flashings, cornices.

  • Window and door surrounds.

Suitable for: residential buildings, office buildings, shopping centres, industrial shops, warehouses, hangars.

Roofing

Galvanised steel is a classic roofing material. Coil is unrolled along the slope, joined with standing or flat seams. The roofing is hermetic and durable.

Suitable for: industrial buildings, hangars, private houses (painted), utility buildings.

Rainwater systems

Gutters, pipes, funnels, elbows are made from galvanised coil. They are resistant to corrosion and mechanical damage.

Suitable for: any buildings requiring reliable water drainage systems.

Industrial building elements

Profiles, siding, fencing, decking — many elements for industrial and agricultural construction are manufactured from coil.

Frequently asked questions

1. What is the difference between galvanised steel and cold-rolled steel without coating?

Cold-rolled steel without coating (black) begins to rust at first contact with water. Galvanised steel is covered with a zinc layer protecting it from corrosion. Black steel cannot be used for facades and roofing — only galvanised steel.

2. Do I need to paint galvanised steel?

Painting is not required but is advisable. Bare galvanising dulls over time and may develop white coating (zinc oxide). Painting provides the desired colour, additionally protects against ultraviolet radiation and extends service life by 1.5–2 times.

3. Can galvanised steel be used for residential building facades?

Yes, especially painted. Galvanised facade cassettes are used for both residential and commercial buildings. It is important to select the correct galvanising class (not lower than 140) and preferably polymer coating.

4. What is the service life of galvanised roofing?

With coating class 200 and temperate climate — 25–35 years. With class 275 and PVDF painting — up to 50 years. For comparison: aluminium lasts 30–50 years, copper — 80+ years.

5. What is cheaper — galvanised steel or aluminium?

Galvanised steel is significantly cheaper than aluminium (2–3 times). It is also stronger. The disadvantage — it is heavier, which increases load on load-bearing structures and requires more powerful sub-framing.

Economical and technological solution for facades

Galvanised steel coil in rolls is an economical, strong and technological solution for facades, roofing and rainwater systems. Properly selected zinc coating class and painting type ensure 25–50 years service life. Roll format is convenient for transportation and minimises joints.
